Crowds came early, brought their cameras, brought the family, and made a day of it. The town had activities happening throughout the day including the Annual Volunteer Firefighter's Sausage and Pancake Breakfast
. The price was only $6 for the ALL YOU CAN EAT meal, served ALL DAY long. The local Amish community
was selling hand-made crafts, baked goods, kettle cooked donuts, and kettle pop corn. The Volant merchants had the red carpet layed out.
Fishermen had the opportunity to purchase their 2006 PA fishing licenses, pre-season fishing supplies, and enter our raffle for a Winston or Orvis rod
(some family members also took advantage of this chance to give their loved one a whopper of a surprise... see details at the bottom of this page).
The PA Fish Commission stocked the waters of Neshannock Creek at approximately 12:00 PM. (One hour earlier than they had advertised.) The Neshannock Creek Fly Shop will also be stocking the Lunker Trout
the following Saturday (Saturday March 11).
The Lunker Trout will consist of large trout anywhere from 16 inches to 8 pounds.
This is always an event that kids are excited to see, so there were many families in attendance. Kids were not only encouraged
to watch, but are more than welcome to participate
in the actual stocking. Fly-fishing is a great sport for youngsters. Each June, the shop hosts the Young Anglers Fly Fishing School
. This is a terrific way to introduce youngsters to the fabulous sport of fly-fishing. It's also a great opportunity for the young novice to improve their skills.

On the day of the pre-season stocking, most took the time to enter our annual rod raffle. The winner was drawn the following week during Neshannock Creek Fly Shop's Lunker Trout Stocking
. Tickets were ONLY $5 or 3 tickets for $10. The winner could choose between a premium Winston
rod. Tickets could be purchased right up to the moment of the drawing on Saturday March 11, so many stopped in and tried their luck. All proceeds
from the raffle were donated to buy the Lunker fish that were stocked by the shop. Fishermen from all over did their part to help keep Neshannock Creek one of the premier trout streams in Western Pennsylvania.
If you have any questions about the stocking, feel free to give us a call at the shop (724) 533-3212
